RSK Acoustics provides a range of acoustics services concerning the design and operation of electroacoustic and audiovisual (AV) systems.

The synergies between acoustic conditions and the acoustic performance of a public address (PA), voice alarm (VA) or AV installation cannot be underestimated. When assessing the performance of such systems, it is important that reflections, reverberation and background noise conditions are properly accounted for to understand sound pressure level coverage and speech intelligibility.

What we do

RSK Acoustics carries out PA design assessments (at an early design stage) of indicative equipment configurations to demonstrate sound pressure level and speech intelligibility coverage with a view to optimising the room’s acoustic conditions and equipment selection. As the design develops, we undertake detailed assessments of system designs to ensure that the proposals will meet the project requirements for coverage and speech intelligibility, which also promotes accessible and inclusive design.

Our team also assesses indoor and outdoor production sound systems (for voice, music and entertainment) to help with optimising audience coverage patterns and limiting unwanted noise emissions. We help to develop and implement suitable mitigation and management strategies to appease any imposed planning and licensing conditions.

Our work

Spaces are modelled using the latest version of industry-standard software packages, ODEON and EASE, which use 3D ray tracing algorithms to model sound propagation through the space, accounting for reflections, absorption, scattering and environmental conditions.

Areas where electroacoustic and AV systems may benefit from an acoustic design review include speech auditoria, theatres, museums, concert halls, churches, atria, concourses, conference rooms, education buildings, entertainment venues and outdoor public event locations.

Matthew White, Associate Director

“The performance of an electroacoustic system is highly dependent on the acoustic conditions of the room it is installed in. Therefore, it is important that critical PA or music playback systems are assessed in their intended location to ensure the acoustic performance is realised.”
